Biographical / Historical
Dr. Mario O. Kapusta was born in Argentina in 1949. He began his college education in Argentina at the Colegio Nacional Reconquista and continued his medical education at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina from 1974 - 1976. From Argentina, Dr. Kapusta came to the University of Texas at Houston to intern and for residency.
Dr. Kapusta began his career in 1983 - 1987 as Director of the Regional Cardiovascular Center at Mother Frances Hospital; and in August of 1983, Dr. Kapusta became the first surgeon to perform open heart-surgery in Tyler, Texas at the Mother Frances Hospital.
From Tyler, Dr. Kapusta continued his career as a surgeon and cardiologist in Houston, Texas.
As of 2023, Dr. Kapusta has over 20 years of experience to the treatment of patients with diseases of the veins, arteries, heart, and lungs. Dr. Kapusta completed his training in General Surgery at the University of Texas, Houston, and in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute, Houston.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Kapusta is also the first physician in Houston certified by the American Board of Phlebology. He is also a member of the American College of Phlebology, the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
His knowledge and experience in Ultrasonography is recognized through certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) and Registered Phlebology Specialist (RPh) and by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He is an expert at Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Cutaneous Laser Therapy, Endovenous Laser Ablation Surgery, Sclerotherapy, Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy, and more.
Dr. Kapusta’s authored and co-authored work includes publishing in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery. In addition, Archives of Surgery and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery contain citing of his work.
