Biographical / Historical

The Honors Program at University of Texas at Tyler began in 2009 to “provide an intellectually rigorous and innovative program for those students who love to be challenged and stimulated by new ideas, new ways of thinking, and exciting interdisciplinary opportunities.” (UT Tyler Honors Handbook, 2009) Twenty students enrolled in the Honors Program at its founding and enrollment has continued to grow throughout the Program’s history. Since its founding, the Honors Program has held several student events including the annual Honors Program Colloquium, and in 2016, began the annual Lyceum event to showcase Honors Program student research. In January of 2023, the UT Tyler Honors Program became the UT Tyler Honors College.
