Biographical / Historical
In 1971, Tyler State College was founded by the Texas Legislature. Four years later, the campus became Texas Eastern University. During that time, academic programs expanded and student enrollment increased. The university was officially made part of the University of Texas system in 1979. The Office of Academic Affairs predominantly deals in academic programs, faculty, and students both undergrad and graduate level. This office also supervises the reports, evaluations, and budgets as well as presides over curriculum and student affairs. This collection has records from each of the past provosts of this office, from Bill Turney (1971-1975) to Amir Mirmiran (2015-present).
This is a collection of mostly paper materials as well as some discs detailing the planning, duties, and academic involvement of the Office of Academic Affairs
Records are arranged into seven series and three subseries. The series and subseries are arranged by subject. Most series titles were based on the existing file titles in the original collection. Series and subseries are as follows, I. Academic Programs, II. Administration: 2a) Committees, 2b) Policies and Procedures, 2c) Reports and Evaluations, III. Faculty, IV. Research, V. Students, VI. Facilities Planning, VII. Miscellaneous.
Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Materials in the collection are in good condition. A majority of the collection consists of paper documents and requires no special means to read.
Materials in the Office of Academic Affairs Records are a collection of memos, booklets, office records, and other papers that reside at the University of Texas at Tyler. The collection was received by the University Archives and Special Collections in April 2021 from the Office of Academic Affairs. Archives practicum intern Maggie Hodges completed processing.
Upon acquisition of this collection, there was no discernible order of the records. Therefore, one was made based on subjects found in the contents of the files. Most of the files were already correctly named, in which case those names were kept. If files had no names, or if papers had no files, a title was given demonstrating a summary of the contents. In doing this, similar content is found in multiple series. A few computer disks were found within the collection. These were separated from the paper materials and placed together in a media box. Computer discs were sorted by subject into existing series and subseries.
