A progressive newsletter that focused on the connection between the oil and gas industries with Texas politics. The paper also covered civil rights issues, academics, and labor. The Texas Spectator remained in circulation from 1945-1948, until it became The Texas Observer. This collection has newsletters from the years 1946 to 1948.

The Texas Spectator was a weekly political newsletter that distributed from Austin, TX between the years 1945-1948. The democratic newsletter covered Texas politics, economics, and local news.


Records are arranged into three series with three subseries. Most series and subseries are arranged by subject, with some arrangements by date or media type. Series titles were kept when present. Series and subseries are as follows, I. Volume I: 1a) The Texas Spectator Volume I May-October 1946, II. Volume II: 2a) The Texas Spectator Volume II October 1946-January 10, 1947, 2b) The Texas Spectator Volume II January -May 1947, 2c) The Texas Spectator Volume II June- October 1947 III. Volume III: 3a) The Texas Spectator Volume III October 1947-May 1948.
