  • Abstract

    The photographs in this collection encompass multiple different subjects and years, ranging from 1969 to 2016. University events, faculty and staff, students, buildings, and major construction projects are documented within this collection. The photographs exist as photo negatives, slides, printed photographs, and digital images on computer disks.

  • Abstract

    The photographs are arranged in fifteen series, each of which have multiple subseries levels. Each series and subseries is arranged alphabetically. The arrangment scheme for the collection was imposed during processing. The series arrangement is as follows: I. Alumni, II.   • Biographical or Historical Information

    The Univeristy of Texas at Tyler was originally founded in 1971 as Tyler State College, and began accepting students in 1973. In 1975, the university changed its name to Texas Eastern University (TEU), and in 1976 moved operations to the permanent main campus, at 3900 University Blvd in Tyler, TX. TEU became a part of the Universirty of Texas system in 1979, taking on its current designation as The University of Texas at Tyler. The university grew form an original student body of 176 to over 10,000 by 2018. The university hosts to many yearly events including the Patriot Golf Classic and the Distinguised Lecture Series, both since the 1980s to the present.

  • Scope and Contents

    The photographs in this collection are a visual record of UT Tyler's history and growth over the last five decades (1969-2016). This collection includes photographs of construction of major buildings on campus, major events in the university's history, students and faculty/staff through out the university's history, and athletics and sporting events.
