In addition to teaching sociology at The University of Texas at Tyler Martin was active in sociological research. This series contains research materials from Martin's and Darrel McDonald's study of early 1900s Galveston, Texas, his study of Hawaiian business development with Peter J. Nelligan, and Martin's study of the East Texas oil boom. Materials found in this series include typed and hand-written data sheets containing demographic information used for Geographic Information Systems mapping, correspondence and memoranda, copies of newspaper articles, and drafts of presentation papers and reports. In addition to research materials there is documentation of grants which funded Martin's work, and page-proofs of Martin's textbook [i]The[/i] [i]Urban Community[/i], published in 2004. Dates of materials range from 1989 to 2003.
